Blue Posts on Hunters

Frostheim at Warcraft Hunters Union:

We have some more blue posts on hunter topics from the big GC, ranging from aspects macros to the possibility that hunters have too many abilities to summon pets that could have a deleterious impact on computer performance. Here they are, one by one:

I’m curious about the Hunter technique of macro’ing Fox and Hawk into cast time/instant shots, respectively, to maximize uptime with the Hawk AP buff while moving.
We don’t consider that fun gameplay. You’re basically opting out of Aspects as a mechanic and just always benefiting from the right Aspect because you’re “clever” enough to know there is a macro. Usually in this situation we put the “stance” on the normal GCD or make the shared GCD longer.

I kind of agree that this isn’t great gameplay; however, this is not the optimal way to play. This result, for example, in your being in fox for Cobra Shots while standing still. On the other hand, it absolutely is a benefit to macro Hawk to instant shots, and I totally agree with breaking this behavior: either make it automatic or find a way to break the macros so players have to actually play.
As a larger, philosophic point, I think any time it’s beneficial to always macro something with something else, there is a game design problem. At that point you’re really just punishing people who haven’t looked up the best macros online. . . . Read full article
