Hunters have been soloing Altairus and Slabhide for the rare mounts they drop for some time now but Steevnash has posted narrated video hunter soloing guides with instructions so detailed that even a beginning solo hunter could easily solo either Altairus or Slabhide in only six minutes after watching them.

Hunter Solo Guide: Altairus
Six minute clear up to and including Altairus, who has a 1% chance of dropping the Reins of the Drake of the North Wind. You skip all of the trash, only engaging the 2 bosses. It is not necessary to run this 5man on heroic difficulty, he drops it in normal mode as well.
For the Altiarus encounter, use the time you’re moving to get upwind of him to keep mend pet rolling on your pet. To get through his Chilling Breath you can completely avoid between 2-4 of the casts, depending on if you want to save Readiness for the boss. The cast is on a 10 second CD and he seems to wait another 0-3 seconds after the CD to cast it again. You can also use these 2 items to greatly reduce how much damage you take:
Hunter Solo Guide: Slabhide
Six minute hunter solo of Stonecore, up to and including Slabhide for the Reins of the Vitreous Stone Drake. The reins are a 1% drop off of Slabhide and are previewed at the start of the video. It is not necessary to run this 5man on heroic for the boss, he drops it in Normal as well.

are the drop rates same on normal and hero?
Wowhead has the drop rates listed for Slabhide as 783/108772 for normal and 599/67837 for heroic.
For Altairus, the drop rate is 1432/168990 for normal and 694/92528 for heroic.
So yes, it looks like the drop rate is approximately 0.8% for all four.
Thanks a lot. All of your videos that I’ve seen so far are great! Getting a really good visual and verbal description of what to do is super helpful. As someone mentioned in a comment on another video, biggest fault i can find with them is somewhat low audio volume.
