Rather than go the easy route of taming him from one of the nearby floating rocks – safely out of melee range, I decided to go with the intended and more challenging approach… standing toe to toe with him while taming.

If you don’t care for Disengaging, pots, snaring, and spec’ing BM there is indeed a much easier way to tame Kirix that requires none of these things. Stand on one of the rock platforms above and in range of where he pats. Tag him, Deterrence his first Magmatoxin and immediately start taming. He won’t evade, he’ll just sit there spitting at you, so it’s only a matter of finishing your tame before his dots kill you (and that should be no problem if you Deterrence the first one).
